Every Harajuku girl knows that style is everything. The more unique the clothing is, the better it is to wear on the street. Japan, itself, offers this kind of high fashion, but so does a store in New York called Tokyo Rebel. They stock everything from the rock and punk fashion of SEXPOT ReVeNGe to the sweet Lolita styles created by Putumayo. Their prices are not extravagant, but they’re higher than they would be at a boutique on the streets of Tokyo – which is to be expected. Considering how high the prices are at a typical brand name clothing store in New York, the prices listed for Tokyo Rebel are exceptionally economical. The highest price in the store tops out at $380.
Dekoden
Tokyo Rebel sells not only clothing, but other accouterments typical to Japan. The youth in Japan decorate their cell phones similarly to the youth in America. However, instead of just sticking on rhinestones and glitter to bling their handhelds, they use anything from false flowers, to bows, to miniature replicas of cakes, cookies and candy. This Japanese phenomenon is called dekoden and can also be used on Nintendo DS, PSP and laptops. Tokyo Rebel sells a variety of dekoden kits that range in price from $8 to $35.
