About 10 years ago hyaluronic acid ( HA ) began getting noticed when ABC news Primetime Thursday reported about a village in Japan where residents live unusually long and healthy lives. These folks tend to remain free of disease and their skin and joints remain remarkably supple despite their ages and that they work in the sun their entire lives. Connie Chung reported that researchers identified hyaluronic acid as the probable anti-aging catalyst. As it turns out HA is present in large quantities in the starchy root vegetables grown by the villagers and that are a staple of their diets.
Since that report there have been thousands of articles about HA, and a major push to bring HA products to the marketplace. Today HA is administered via injection, oral supplements, and topical creams and serums.
HA is still a rather obscure supplement, but that is because until recently it was quite pricey and could not be absorbed when taken by mouth. That has changed and made believers out of many who have tried it and gotten relief from joint problems and visible signs of aging.
