Cell phones and computers are constantly advancing in services offered, and in the United Kingdom, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will soon be providing remote diagnosis of sexually transmitted diseases. According to The Guardian, NIH hopes that this service will help stem the spread of STDs, particularly among people under age 25. The STD kit consists of a small chip, which is used by applying urine or saliva and then inserting it into a cell phone or computer for remote diagnosis. Young people seem particularly reluctant to go to a clinic to be tested, because of embarrassment and inconvenience. The private, fast diagnosis should eliminate these barriers. Anyone found to be positive for herpes, Chlamydia, and gonorrhea will receive instructions on where to go for treatment.
